Behavioral Development: Timing Is Everything
نویسنده
چکیده
A new study has found that bonobos take longer to reach adult levels of two behaviors than do chimpanzees, providing empirical support for the 'paedomorphism' hypothesis among our closest relatives.

The contingent negative variation (CNV): timing isn’t everything
When participants time intervals ranging from several hundred milliseconds to several seconds a negative polarity waveform, known as the contingent negative variation (CNV), manifests in the ongoing electroencephalogram (EEG). The perceptual and cognitive functions underlying this component are subject to ongoing debate. Moreover, recent evidence suggests that the link between the CNV and behav...
متن کاملIs It Time to Say Farewell to the ISDS System?; Comment on “The Trans-Pacific Partnership: Is It Everything We Feared for Health?”
Investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) continues to plague health-oriented government regulation. This is particularly reflected in recent challenges to tobacco control measures through bilateral investment agreements. There are numerous reform proposals circulating within the public health community. However, I suggest that perhaps it is time for the community to explore a stronger position ...
متن کاملTiming Predictability — a Must for Avionics Systems
Timing Analysis – the Problem This position statement concentrates on the certification of the timing properties of embedded avionics systems with hard real-time characteristics. For certification, they need offline guarantees for the satisfaction of their timing constraints, and these should be derived by sound methods. In modern microprocessor architectures, caches, pipelines, and all kinds o...
متن کاملTiming is Everything: PTTH Mediated DHR4 Nucleocytoplasmic Trafficking Sets the Tempo of Drosophila Steroid Production
During development, multicellular organisms must become sexually mature in order to reproduce. The developmental timing of this transition is controlled by pulses of steroid hormones, but how these pulses are generated have remained unclear? A recent paper shows that in Drosophila larvae, nucleocytoplasmic trafficking of DHR4, a nuclear receptor, in response to prothoracicotropic hormone signal...
متن کاملInduction and initial patterning of the nervous system - the chick embryo enters the scene.
Until recently, almost everything known about the molecular controls of early neural development came from studies in amphibians. It is now possible to misexpress factors in chick embryos at relatively late stages in development, allowing careful dissection of the timing of cell interactions. This is starting to contribute significantly to our understanding of neural induction and early pattern...
